I don't like having to ask around to find out who got the mail. So I agree here, even if the kill mails don't get sent out till the next downtime.

Maybe if sending a KM to all the extra people will cause lag just make it send a mail to every 1 else telling them who got the kill.

That would probably cause about the same level of lag as sending it to everyone.

But if CCP sets up the killmail system so that it doesn't send them out until the server load is below a certain threshold the lag won't be an issue. Worst case, the killmail isn't sent out till the next downtime. So who would object to having the km delayed till the next downtime if it means that everyone will get it ?

I've also noticed that the max size of Eve mails is smaller than the size of killmails, meaning we have to transfer them via an out of game method if we want the fitting information.

I got my first battleship kill last night. But I didn't get the killmail, and I wasn't the only person asking for it in fleet and militia chat. It still hasn't been posted to the killboard, so I'm guessing that whoever got it either doesn't know or doesn't care about KMs. Even if we find out who got the mail, I don't know of any way to get them to post it.

So currently the biggest thing I'm on the killmail for is killing a stupidly fitted Drake.

I have a feeling that this will be happening a lot in FW.

Nope, it was a factional warfare OP. Meaning lots of people from the NPC corp.

If that happened all you would have to do was plug your combat api key in to your corp killboard and when you leave the corp just change the key, nobody can cheat that way and it can still be kept private.

Naturally if you get a KM, your api key will also get it. Personally I'm a bit hesitant to give people my secure API key unless I trust them.

So you want to send killmails to everyone, but you want them to be only accessible through the website, instead of just having them available in-game through the current means ?

 Why ?

only the pilot who got the final blow gets kill-mail.

After reading all the replys to this thread the issues here are lagg and security. Sendign a kill mail to everyone who took part will casue lag,

The lag can be minimised by not sending out the KMs at all until downtime.

Quote: a ranking system where kill-mials can be viewd by everyone has personal security issues (ccp pointed this out),

Which is why they aren't doing an official killboard. Your suggested change to this idea has the same security implications as having everyone involved getting a copy of the KM would.

Though asking players to login through their web browser a lot more than they currently do causes a bit more security hassle for CCP, since CCP has no control about how secure the browsers are.

Quote: also somethign about extra work to be done during DT, some people complain about a daily DT, alone and extended.

I doubt it would lengthen the downtime by much, if at all.

Quote: The kill mails are all ready in the data base. Only the pilot who lost his ship needs to know immediatly of his loss. If you the attacker wants to view, copy or what ever, you can goto your account/ character info and pull the kills mails and do what ever you want in your own time

Which still needs the servers to do the processing to have the KMs linked to player accounts. Meaning the same amount of lag.

Quote: I just thought of a comprimise, that could posimble work for everyone

One that doesn't remove any complaints against sending the km to everyone, but does add extra hassle because people have to login to the website instead of accessing it from in-game.
